Sidebar is a Winning Restaurant

Sidebar, a restaurant on Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville, has a huge advantage to being a winning restaurant based on its location alone.  Nestled between the Yum! Center on the city block between Troll Pub and Doc Crow’s, any restaurant would be sure to pack its doors during the nonstop concerts and sporting events downtown.  But what will keep patrons coming back again and again is the thoughtfulness of the décor and the simplicity of the menu which helps the kitchen push out dishes quickly, but it’s the outstanding cocktails and burgers that will get you hooked.

Good restaurants do too many dishes average.  Great restaurants to a smaller number of dishes great.  With a simple concept of bourbon, burgers and beer, and a super small menu of eight sandwiches (with a vegetarian option available), 4 different types of fries, appetizers, and a limited dessert menu, the staff is well-trained and the kitchen has made each dish to perfection.  When I dined during Derby weekend, a stressful time for any restaurant, I was blown away by the cool but casual ambiance and the superb customer service.  I dined on the bourbon mushroom and beer cheese burger with the truffle zucchini fries.

The barrel aged cocktails are a step above the rest.  I’m a sucker for old-fashions and theirs didn’t disappoint.  I knew I was in for a good time when Sidebar took home the grand prize at the Annual Tale of a Horse competition, where mixologist Alexis Weber beat out culinary powerhouses like Proof on Main, with her winning cocktails the “Vivacious Vixen”.   Check out this beauty!
